The Captain’s Holiday Traditions

Here at the Sea Captain’s House Restaurant, Myrtle Beach, we look forward to this time of year and spreading Christmas cheer. We love getting into the spirit of the holiday season with our holiday traditions!

Decorations Galore
At Sea Captain’s, we don’t have just one giant tree, we actually have three trees! Each of the trees are found in different areas of the restaurant and decorated in their own unique way. The one in the foyer is decorated with colored lights and ornaments. The tree in the dining room has a nautical theme, with white lights, nets, sand dollars, jellyfish, and plenty of Captain ornaments scattered throughout. The third Christmas tree is actually outside – nestled in the yard behind the restaurant with lights wrapped throughout its branches. At night, you’ll feel peaceful and calm while you dine, looking out at the ocean and the lights twinkling on that tree.

You will find touches of the season throughout the entire restaurant. We decorate with greenery, wreaths, ribbons, and seasonal flowers. Evergreen garland is added to the mantels and around the lamps on the wall. You’ll find statues of Mr. and Mrs. Claus with their sleigh, as well as stockings hanging from both chimneys. There are poinsettias throughout the restaurant and wreaths adorning our windows and front door. Even the Captain on the front porch gets into the Christmas spirit, wearing a scarf made of evergreen garland complete with a big red bow.

Baking Homemade Christmas Cookie Ornaments
After the decorations are up, we warm up the ovens and bake our homemade Christmas cookie ornaments. We roll out the gingerbread dough and carefully cut out snowflakes. We bake them and decorate them with colorful icing. Each cookie ornament is personalized by adding a name in icing, one for each staff member of the restaurant. Once they’re done cooling, they’re ready to be hung on the tree. But the tree is not the only place we hang them! You’ll also find them tucked into random places, scattered throughout the restaurant.

Wassail while you Wait
During the cold winter months, we have hot Wassail available during lunch and dinner. Wassail, the beverage, is a hot, mulled punch that’s often associated Yuletide. This delicious drink truly captures the tastes of the season! We have a large pot of it simmering in the foyer and you can help yourself to a cup or two. After coming in from the cold, it’s nice to have something warm to sip on while you wait!

With the warm glow of the lights from the tree, Sea Captain’s creates a cozy holiday atmosphere, making it the perfect place to catch up with friends and loved ones this holiday season. Escape from the hustle and bustle of the holidays and come relax with us! We’ll have a fire burning in the fireplace and nice hot cup of Wassail waiting for you!
