Taste of the Town

The crowd is buzzing around, while music and the smell of various foods fill the air – a hodgepodge of spicy and savory intertwines with sugary and sweet. People venture around booths representing local restaurants all over the Grand Strand that are handing out samples of their chef’s creations. This is the Taste of the Town, the culinary and social event of the fall sSCHAwardseason in Myrtle Beach. But this isn’t your typical social soiree – at this culinary event every patron is a critic. Tickets are purchased to sample food and votes are placed towards various categories such as best dessert, best entrée, all around favorite (aka people’s choice) and best booth design. And be sure to bring the family because there’s even a kid’s choice award.

The Sea Captain’s House looks forward to the Taste of the Town event every year. It challenges our chef to expand his culinary skills to create a mouth-watering dish that would make the Captain proud. His creation for the Sea Captain’s House’s entry for last year’s event was a chocolate layer cake with a layer of peanut butter mousse, topped with a caramel pretzel peanut cluster and a drizzle of chocolate caramel ganache. And we are proud to say this slice of chocolaty-goodness took home first prize for best dessert.

And it’s not all about the food. The booths are works of art in themselves, decorated to catch the crowd’s attention and draw you into their tantalizing samples. The booth for The Sea Captain’s House won third place at last year’s Taste of the Town. We’ve tweaked our design a bit and added a little more flair in hopes to bring home the gold at the upcoming event on October 18th at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

We are hoping to not only repeat our first place dessert victory, but also sweep the series and bring home awards in all categories. We need you to do your part and come see us and sample his delectable dessert at this year’s 33rd annual Taste of the Town. The event runs from 4 pm to 10 pm, so make sure to stop by for a sample and after you’re down wiping the crumbs from your mouth, make sure to cast your vote for the Sea Captain’s House – the power is in your hands.
